Installation
Unzip the download package. Inside you will find the module zip and this documentation set.
- Install file: mod_cookiealert_3.x_vX.x.zip (Joomla 4 / 5 / 6)
Go to System > Install > Extensions, open the Upload Package File tab, choose the module zip, then click Upload & Install.
After install, open Content > Site Modules, find Easy Cookie Alert, set Status to Published, Hide Title, assign a position (debug is fine), and choose the menu items where the banner should appear.
Content
Open the module and use the Content tab for visitor-facing copy.
- Message: Main consent text shown on the banner.
- Privacy policy URL / text: Optional link next to the message.
- Button labels: Accept all, Reject all, Cookie settings, Save choices, and the reopen control.
- Preferences title & intro: Copy inside the customize panel.
- CCPA / CPRA: Optional Do Not Sell or Share link, prefs toggle, and related labels for US privacy laws.
Layout & Theme
Use the Layout tab to control how the banner looks and behaves.
- Layout: Bar Top, Bar Bottom, Floating card, Modal, or Overlay.
- Theme: Dark, Light, Soft, or Brand.
- Floating position: Corner placement when Layout is Floating.
- Accent colour & radius: Brand the primary actions and card corners.
- Show Reject / Preferences / Reopen: Toggle optional controls.
- Force consent: Keep the page locked until the visitor chooses (ideal with Overlay or Modal).
Tip: Start with Bar Bottom + Dark, then switch to Floating or Overlay when you need a stronger consent moment.
Categories
The Categories tab defines what visitors can allow or refuse.
- Built-in categories: Analytics, Marketing, and Functional (Necessary is always on).
- Labels & descriptions: Edit the text shown in Cookie settings.
- Default state: Choose whether each optional category starts on or off in the prefs panel.
- Custom categories: Add your own ids (for example social) with label, description, default, and script.
- Consent days: How long a saved choice is remembered.
- Consent version: Bump this when your policy changes so visitors are asked again.
Scripts & Consent
The Scripts tab controls what runs after consent.
- Per-category scripts: Paste Analytics, Marketing, and Functional tags. They run only when that category is allowed.
- Legacy Accept / Decline hooks: Optional code for Accept all or Reject all.
- Google Consent Mode v2: Default denied in the page head before tags fire, with restore of a saved choice. Configure wait_for_update, ads data redaction, and URL passthrough.
- Block embeds: Freeze YouTube, Vimeo, Maps, and similar iframes until the chosen category is allowed. Visitors see a Cookie settings placeholder.
- data-jx-eca-require: Mark scripts or UI that should activate only after a category is allowed.
- Consent proof log: Store anonymised database receipts with a local receipt id.
