Unzipping the Package

Use any file unzipper tool or WinRAR to unzip the ResponsiveTestimonialsPro_UNZIP.zip package. After unzipping, you will find the following contents:

• Folder Joomla 4, 5 & 6: The extension is fully compatible with Joomla 4.x, Joomla 5.x, and Joomla 6.x. This folder contains the installation file named pkg_testimonials_pro_vX.x.zip (where X.x represents the version number).

• README.txt: Contains vital information about the current version of the extension, including new features, compatibility notes, and important update information.

Installing the Extension

To install the extension, log in to the backend of your Joomla website.

• For Joomla 4, 5 & 6: Navigate to System > Install > Extensions. You can either drag and drop the pkg_testimonials_pro_vX.x.zip file into the upload area or click "Browse" to select the file from your computer.

Important Notes:

• Make sure you are installing the package file (pkg_testimonials_pro_vX.x.zip), not individual component or module files.
• The package includes the component and both modules (Form and Showcase) in one installation.
• A success message will be displayed once the installation is complete.
• If you encounter any errors during installation, check your Joomla version compatibility and PHP version (requires PHP 8.0 or higher).

After installing the "Responsive Testimonials Pro" package on your Joomla site, the immediate next step is to configure its settings. Begin by navigating to Components > Responsive Testimonials Pro, then click on "Testimonials". On this page, you'll notice an "Options" button located at the top right corner. Clicking this button will open the component configuration panel where you can configure all the extension settings.

Setting Up Google reCAPTCHA v3

The extension uses Invisible Google reCAPTCHA v3 for enhanced security against spam and bot submissions. This is a crucial step to protect your testimonial forms from spam.

Step-by-Step Guide to Obtain reCAPTCHA Keys:

1. Visit Google's reCAPTCHA Page: Access Google reCAPTCHA Admin Console.

2. Sign In: Use your Google account to log in, or create one if needed.

3. Register Your Site: Click the "+" button or "Create" to register a new site.

4. Configure Your Site:

   • Label: Enter a descriptive label for your reCAPTCHA (e.g., "My Website Testimonials") for easy identification.
   • reCAPTCHA Type: Select "reCAPTCHA v3" from the dropdown menu. This is important - v3 is invisible and doesn't require user interaction.
   • Domains: Enter your site's domain(s) one per line. For example:
   • example.com (without http:// or https://)
   • www.example.com (if you use www)
   • localhost (for local development)
   • Owners: Verify your email is listed as the owner, or add additional email addresses if needed.

5. Accept Terms and Submit: Check the "I'm not a robot" checkbox, accept the terms of service, and click "Submit" to complete the setup.

6. Obtain Keys: After submission, you'll be redirected to a page displaying your keys:

   • Site Key (Public Key): This is safe to expose in client-side code. Copy this key.
   • Secret Key (Private Key): Keep this secret and never share it publicly. Copy this key.

Entering Keys in Component Options

Now that you have your keys, follow these steps:

1. Navigate to Components > Responsive Testimonials Pro > Testimonials.
2. Click the Options button in the top right corner.
3. In the configuration panel, you'll see two fields:
• Public Key: Paste your Site Key (Public Key) from Google here.
• Private Key: Paste your Secret Key (Private Key) from Google here. This field is masked for security.
4. Click Save or Save & Close to save your settings.

Configuring Email Notifications

The extension can send email notifications when new testimonials are submitted. Configure this as follows:

• Notification Email: Enter the email address where you want to receive notifications for new testimonial submissions. This can be your admin email or any email address you prefer. Leave empty to disable email notifications.

• Email Subject: Customize the subject line for notification emails. You can use placeholders that will be replaced with actual values:

  • {name} - Will be replaced with the testimonial author's name
  • {email} - Will be replaced with the testimonial author's email

  Example: "New testimonial submission from {name}" will become "New testimonial submission from John Doe"

Email Approval & Publishing Feature

This powerful feature allows you to approve and publish testimonials directly from your email without logging into the backend!

• Enable Email Publish Link:

  • Set this to "Yes" to enable the email approval feature.
  • When enabled, notification emails will include a secure link to publish the testimonial directly.
  • Set to "No" if you prefer to approve testimonials only through the backend.

• Publish Link Expiry (Days):

  • Set the number of days the publish link will remain valid (between 1 and 30 days).
  • After this period, the link will expire for security purposes.
  • Recommended: 7 days for balance between convenience and security.

How It Works:

1. When a testimonial is submitted, you receive an email notification.
2. The email contains a secure "Publish" link (if enabled).
3. Click the link in your email to instantly publish the testimonial.
4. No need to log into the Joomla backend!

Before you can add testimonials, you must create at least one category. Categories help you organize testimonials by topic, product, service, or any other classification you prefer.

Creating Your First Category

1. Navigate to Components > Responsive Testimonials Pro > Testimonials Category in your Joomla dashboard.

2. Click the New button in the top left corner.

3. On the category form, you'll see several fields:

   • Title: Enter a name for your category (e.g., "Product Reviews", "Service Testimonials", "Customer Feedback"). This is the only required field.
   • Alias: This is auto-generated from the title, but you can customize it if needed. Used in URLs.
   • Description: Optional. Add a description of what this category is for.
   • Parent: Optional. If you want nested categories, select a parent category here.
   • Status: Set to "Published" to make the category active, or "Unpublished" to hide it temporarily.

4. Click Save or Save & Close to create the category.

Creating Multiple Categories

You can create as many categories as you need. For example:

• Product Reviews
• Service Testimonials
• Client Feedback
• Partner Testimonials

Each testimonial can be assigned to one or more categories, giving you flexibility in organization and display.

Managing Categories

From the category list page, you can:

• Edit categories by clicking on the category name
• Publish/Unpublish categories using the status toggle
• Delete categories (only if no testimonials are assigned to them)
• Reorder categories using the ordering column

There are two main ways to add testimonials: manually entering them in the backend or allowing users to submit them via a form on the frontend. You can also use both methods together.

Method 1: Manually Adding Testimonials

This method is perfect for adding testimonials you've collected through other means or importing existing testimonials.

1. Navigate to Components > Responsive Testimonials Pro > Testimonials.

2. Click the New button in the top left corner to open the testimonial form.

3. Fill in the testimonial form fields:

   • Category: Select one or more categories for this testimonial (required).
   • Author Image: Click "Select" to upload or choose an author photo from the media manager. Optional but recommended.
   • Name: Enter the author's full name (required).
   • Email: Enter the author's email address (required).
   • Company: Enter the company name (optional).
   • Position: Enter the job title or position (optional).
   • Website: Enter the company website URL (optional).
   • Rating: Select a star rating from 1 to 5 stars (optional).
   • Testimonial: Enter the testimonial text content (required).
   • Status: Set to "Published" to display immediately, or "Unpublished" to save as draft.

4. Click Save or Save & Close to save the testimonial.

Method 2: User Submissions via Frontend Form

Users can submit testimonials through either a component form (attached to a menu item) or a module form (placed in any template position).

Option A: Setting Up the Component Form

The component form creates a dedicated page for testimonial submissions.

1. Create a Menu Item:

   • Go to Menus > Your Menu (or any menu you want to use) and click New.
   • In the Menu Item Type field, click "Select" and choose Responsive Testimonial Form > Testimonial Form.
   • Enter a Menu Title (e.g., "Submit Testimonial" or "Share Your Experience").
   • Set the menu item status to "Published".

2. Configure Form Settings:

   • In the menu item configuration, go to the Form tab.
   • Choose Category: Select one or more categories where user-submitted testimonials will be assigned. Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Cmd (Mac) to select multiple categories.
   • Display Options: Configure which fields to show:
   • Show/Hide Category field
   • Show/Hide Company field
   • Show/Hide Position field
   • Show/Hide Website field
   • Show/Hide Rating field
   • Show/Hide Author Image field

3. Styling the Component Form:

   • Go to the Styling tab in the menu item configuration.
   • Customize form appearance including width, background colors, borders, padding, and more.

Option B: Setting Up the Module Form

The module form can be placed anywhere on your site - sidebar, footer, content area, etc.

1. Create the Module:

   • Navigate to Content > Site Modules (or Extensions > Modules in Joomla 4/5/6).
   • Click New.
   • In the module type selection, choose Responsive Testimonials Pro - Form.

2. Module Basic Settings:

   • Title: Enter a module title (e.g., "Submit Your Testimonial") or leave blank to hide the title.
   • Show Title: Toggle to show or hide the module title.
   • Position: Select where the module should appear (e.g., sidebar, footer, top).
   • Status: Set to "Published" to display the module.
   • Access: Choose who can see this module (Public, Registered, etc.).
   • Menu Assignment: Choose "On all pages" or select specific pages where the form should appear.

3. General Settings Tab:

   • Select Categories: Choose one or more categories for user submissions. If only one category is selected, it will be hidden from the form. If multiple categories are selected, users can choose which category to submit to.
   • Show Category Field: Toggle to show or hide the category selection dropdown (only relevant if multiple categories are selected).
   • Show Company Field: Toggle to show or hide the company name field.
   • Show Position Field: Toggle to show or hide the job position field.
   • Show Website Field: Toggle to show or hide the website URL field.
   • Show Rating Field: Toggle to show or hide the star rating field.
   • Show Author Image Field: Toggle to show or hide the author photo upload field.

4. Form Container Styling Tab:

   • Heading Alignment: Choose left, center, or right alignment for the form heading.
   • Enable Subheading: Toggle to show or hide a subheading below the main heading.
   • Subheading Text: Enter custom subheading text (HTML allowed).
   • Subheading Color: Set the color for the subheading text.
   • Layout Columns: Choose single column or two-column layout for form fields.
   • Form Width: Set form width (e.g., "100%" for full width, "800px" for fixed width).
   • Theme Color: Set the primary theme color used for buttons and focus states.
   • Enable Background Color: Toggle to enable or disable form background color.
   • Form Background Color: Set the background color (supports RGBA for transparency).
   • Form Padding: Set internal padding (e.g., "2rem", "20px").
   • Form Border Radius: Set rounded corners (e.g., "12px", "8px").
   • Form Border Color: Set border color.
   • Form Border Thickness: Set border width (e.g., "1px", "2px").
   • Enable Form Shadow: Toggle to enable shadow effects.
   • Shadow Settings: If shadow is enabled, configure:
   • Shadow X Offset (horizontal position)
   • Shadow Y Offset (vertical position)
   • Shadow Blur Radius (softness)
   • Shadow Spread (size expansion)
   • Shadow Color
   • Enable Shadow on Hover: Toggle to show enhanced shadow when hovering over the form.
   • Hover Shadow Settings: Configure hover shadow properties (same options as above).

5. Label Styling Tab:

   • Label Color: Set the text color for form labels.
   • Label Font Size: Set label font size (e.g., "14px", "16px").
   • Label Font Weight: Choose from normal, bold, or numeric values (100-900).
   • Label Bottom Margin: Set spacing between label and input field (e.g., "8px").

6. Input Field Styling Tab:

   • Input Padding: Set internal padding for input fields (e.g., "12px 16px").
   • Input Border Radius: Set rounded corners for inputs (e.g., "8px").
   • Input Border Color: Set border color for input fields.
   • Input Focus Border Color: Set border color when field is focused (leave empty to use theme color).
   • Input Background Color: Set background color for input fields.
   • Input Text Color: Set text color inside input fields.
   • Input Font Size: Set font size (recommended: 16px or larger to prevent mobile zoom).
   • Field Spacing: Set vertical spacing between form fields (e.g., "24px").
   • Textarea Height: Set height for testimonial textarea (e.g., "150px").

7. File Upload Styling Tab:

   • Upload Area Border Color: Set border color for file upload area.
   • Upload Area Background Color: Set background color for upload area.
   • Upload Area Hover Background: Set background color when hovering over upload area.

8. Button Styling Tab:

   • Enable Button Icon: Toggle to show or hide icon in submit button.
   • Button Icon Class: Enter FontAwesome icon class (e.g., "fa fa-paper-plane", "fa fa-check", "fa fa-send").
   • Button Hover Color: Set background color when hovering over button.
   • Button Width: Set button width (e.g., "100%", "200px", "auto").
   • Button Text Color: Set text color of submit button.
   • Button Text Color on Hover: Set text color when hovering over button.
   • Enable Button Hover Shadow: Toggle to show shadow effect on button hover.
   • Button Font Size: Set font size for button text.
   • Button Font Weight: Choose from normal, bold, or numeric values (100-900).
   • Button Border Radius: Set rounded corners for button (e.g., "8px").

9. Advanced Options Tab:

   • Module Class Suffix: Add a custom CSS class suffix for additional styling (optional).
   • Custom CSS: Add your own CSS code for complete design control. This CSS will be applied directly to the module.

10. Click Save or Save & Close to save your module configuration.

After collecting testimonials, showcasing them on your Joomla site can significantly enhance its credibility and trust. You can display testimonials using either the component view (attached to a menu item) or through a module (placed in various template positions).

Method 1: Using the Component View

The component view creates a dedicated page for displaying testimonials with optional pagination. Perfect for a "Testimonials" or "Reviews" page.

Step 1: Create a Menu Item

1. Navigate to Menus > Your Menu (choose the menu where you want the testimonials page) and click New.

2. In the Menu Item Type field, click "Select" and choose Responsive Testimonials Pro > Testimonials.

3. Enter a Menu Title (e.g., "Testimonials", "Customer Reviews", "What Our Clients Say").

4. Set the menu item status to "Published".

Step 2: Configure Display Settings

In the menu item configuration, you'll find several tabs with display options:

• Display Tab:

  • Select Categories: Choose which categories of testimonials to display. You can select multiple categories.
  • Items Per Page: Set how many testimonials to show per page (pagination will be added automatically if you have more testimonials).
  • Sort Order: Choose how testimonials should be sorted (newest first, oldest first, by rating, by name, random, etc.).

• Display Options Tab:

  • Show Author Photo: Toggle to show or hide author profile images.
  • Show Default Image: Toggle to show placeholder image when no author photo is uploaded.
  • Show Date: Toggle to show or hide testimonial creation date.
  • Show Star Rating: Toggle to show or hide star ratings.
  • Show Company Details: Toggle to show or hide company information.
  • Show Job Position: Toggle to show or hide job title/position.
  • Show Website Link: Toggle to show or hide company website links.
  • Website Link Opens In: Choose "New Tab/Window" or "Same Window" for website links.

• Styling Tab:

  • Customize colors, fonts, spacing, and layout options similar to the module (see module styling section below).

Method 2: Using the Showcase Module

The module provides greater flexibility in placement and can be used in sidebars, footers, homepage, or any template position. Perfect for displaying testimonials throughout your site.

Step 1: Create the Module

1. Navigate to Content > Site Modules (or Extensions > Modules in Joomla 4/5/6).

2. Click New.

3. In the module type selection, choose Responsive Testimonials Pro - Showcase.

Step 2: Module Basic Settings

• Title: Enter a module title (e.g., "What Our Clients Say") or leave blank to hide the title.
• Show Title: Toggle to show or hide the module title.
• Position: Select where the module should appear (e.g., sidebar, footer, top, bottom).

  • Show Star Rating: Toggle to show or hide star ratings.

• Company Information:

  • Show Company Details: Toggle to show or hide company information.
  • Show Job Position: Toggle to show or hide job title/position (only if company is shown).
  • Show Website Link: Toggle to show or hide company website links (only if company is shown).
  • Website Link Opens In: Choose "New Tab/Window" or "Same Window" for website links.

Step 4: Slider & Layout Settings Tab

• Transition Effect: Choose how testimonials transition:

  • Fade In/Out: Smooth fade transition between testimonials.
  • Slide Horizontal: Slide testimonials horizontally.
  • Slide Vertical: Slide testimonials vertically.
  • No Animation (Static Grid): Display testimonials in a static grid without animation.

• Testimonials Per Row: Choose how many testimonials to display side by side (1, 2, 3, or 4 columns). Only available for Fade, Horizontal, and Static Grid modes.

• Auto-Play Speed: Set time each slide is displayed before moving to the next (in milliseconds, e.g., 4000 = 4 seconds).

• Auto-Play Slideshow: Toggle to automatically advance to the next slide.

• Navigation Controls: Choose how users can navigate:

  • No Controls: No navigation buttons or dots.
  • Arrow Buttons: Previous/Next arrow buttons.
  • Page Dots: Dot indicators showing current position.

• Read More Feature:

  • Enable Read More: Toggle to show "Read More" link for long testimonials.
  • Read More Action: Choose what happens when users click "Read More":
  • Open in Popup Window: Display full testimonial in a popup overlay.
  • Link to URL: Redirect to a specific URL or testimonial's website.
  • Character Limit: Set maximum characters to show before "Read More" appears (e.g., 200).
  • Read More Button Text: Customize the "Read More" link text (default: "Read More").
  • Read More Link URL: If using URL redirect, enter the URL (leave empty to use testimonial's website URL).
  • Read More Link Opens In: Choose "New Tab/Window" or "Same Window".

• Popup Window Settings (if Read More popup is enabled):

  • Popup Maximum Width: Set popup width (e.g., "800px" or "80%").
  • Popup Background Color: Set background color inside popup.
  • Popup Text Color: Set text color in popup.
  • Popup Font Size: Set font size (e.g., "16px", "1.2em").
  • Popup Font Weight: Choose from normal, bold, or numeric values (100-900).
  • Popup Line Height: Set spacing between lines (e.g., "1.8" or "150%").
  • Popup Inner Padding: Set space inside popup (e.g., "40px", "2em").
  • Popup Overlay Color: Set background color of dark overlay behind popup (supports RGBA).

Step 5: Appearance & Styling Tab

• Layout & Position:

  • Testimonial Box Position: Choose where to position testimonial text box relative to author info:

  • Testimonial Text Weight: Choose from normal, bold, or numeric values (100-900).
  • Author Name Size: Set font size for author's name.
  • Author Name Weight: Choose from normal, bold, or numeric values (100-900).

• Spacing & Sizing:

  • Module Margin: Add margin around entire module (e.g., "20px", "10px 20px").
  • Module Padding: Add padding inside module container.
  • Gap Between Items: Set space between testimonial items (e.g., "20px", "1rem").
  • Testimonial Box Padding: Set space inside testimonial text box (e.g., "15px", "1em").
  • Position/Company Separator: Set text between job position and company name (e.g., "of ", "at ", " - ").

• Visual Elements:

  • Show Quote Marks: Toggle to display quotation marks around testimonial text.

Step 6: Advanced Settings Tab

• Customization:

  • Module CSS Class Suffix: Add custom CSS class for additional styling (e.g., "my-custom-class").
  • Custom CSS Code: Add your own CSS code for complete design control. This CSS will be added to the page.

• Asset Optimization:

  • Use Minified Assets: Toggle to load minified CSS/JS files for better performance (recommended for production sites).

• Image Processing:

  • Image Format: Choose output format for processed images:
  • None: Keep original format
  • AVIF: Modern format with better compression (requires browser support)
  • WEBP: Modern format with better compression (requires browser support)

• SEO & Integration:

  • Enable Google Rich Snippets: Toggle to add structured data (JSON-LD) for SEO. This helps search engines understand your testimonials and can display star ratings in search results.

Step 7: Save and Preview

1. Click Save or Save & Close to save your module configuration.
2. Visit your website's frontend to see the testimonials displayed.
3. Make adjustments as needed to achieve your desired appearance.

Tips for Best Results

• Start with default settings and customize gradually to see what works best for your site.
• Enable Google Rich Snippets for better SEO and search visibility.
• Use high-quality author photos for a more professional appearance.
• Test your testimonials display on mobile devices to ensure responsiveness.
• Consider using the slider mode for homepage testimonials and grid mode for dedicated testimonial pages.
