MailerLite Newsletter shows a name + email signup form in any module position. Subscribers are sent to your MailerLite audience using MailerLite’s current API (connect.mailerlite.com).

Submissions are handled server-side through Joomla’s com_ajax interface, so your API token is never exposed in the browser.

You can:

• Configure heading, intro text, field placeholders, button label, and success/error messages
• Choose horizontal or vertical layout and tune colours, fonts, inputs, and button (including optional icon)
• Follow the Setup instructions tab for API token and group ID (with links to MailerLite)
• Translate visitor-facing strings via language files for multilingual sites

Works on Joomla 4, 5, and 6. Maintained by Joomlax.

Get the package

Download mod_mailerlite_newsletter.zip from your purchase email or account Downloads area.

Install

In the administrator, go to System > Install > Extensions, upload the zip, and wait for the success message.

Publish a module

Go to System > Manage > Site Modules, click New, choose MailerLite Newsletter, assign a position and menu where the form should appear, then Save.

What you need

• Joomla 4, 5, or 6
• A MailerLite account with API access and at least one audience group
• Outbound HTTPS from your server to MailerLite (standard on hosted sites)

API token

In MailerLite, open Integrations > Developer API and create or copy your token from the dashboard (see links in the Setup instructions tab).

The token is a long JWT-style string with three segments separated by two dots. Paste it in full into the module’s API token field — use Copy in MailerLite; do not re-type it.

Audience group ID

In MailerLite, go to Subscribers > Groups, open the group you want, and note the numeric group ID (often visible in the URL or group details).

You may enter multiple IDs separated by comma or space if subscribers should be added to more than one group.

API endpoint

Leave API endpoint empty unless MailerLite or your host instructs otherwise. The default is https://connect.mailerlite.com/api/subscribers.

Form content

• Form heading and Intro text appear above the fields.
• Name / Email placeholders label the inputs for accessibility and placeholders.
• Button text and optional icon (none, arrow, envelope, paper plane).
• Success message and Error message for visitor feedback (MailerLite errors may override with API details when relevant).

Appearance

• Layout: horizontal (row on wide screens) or vertical (stacked).
• Colours & sizes: section background, text, heading, inputs, button, success/error message colours; border radius and padding; max width.

Markup uses jx--prefixed classes so styles stay scoped to this module.

Recommended approach

Create a separate module instance per content language (e.g. English and French), assign each to the right language and menu, and translate the form content fields in each copy.

Language files

System messages (validation hints, some Ajax errors) use MOD_MAILERLITE_NEWSLETTER_* strings in language/<tag>/mod_mailerlite_newsletter.ini. Copy en-GB to your tag and translate.

Site language folder

After install, a copy may exist under language/<tag>/ at the site root. Keep it in sync with the module’s language files when you add new keys.

API token

The token is stored in the module parameters and used only in PHP on the server. It is not output in HTML or JavaScript.

CSRF

Ajax posts include Joomla’s CSRF token for com_ajax requests.

Data sent to MailerLite

Typically email and name as required by this form; review MailerLite’s terms and your privacy policy for subscribers.

• “Unauthenticated” or 401 from MailerLite

  • Paste the full API token again (three segments, one line) and save. Generate a new token in MailerLite if needed.

• Subscribers not added to the right group

  • Double-check the numeric Audience group ID in MailerLite.

• Could not reach MailerLite

  • Confirm the server allows outbound HTTPS to MailerLite.

• Styles clash with my template

  • Use the Appearance options; very aggressive templates may need custom CSS — contact support if needed.

Module options show language keys (MOD_…)

• Ensure language/<tag>/mod_mailerlite_newsletter.ini at the site root contains all keys, or reinstall the package.
• Clear Joomla cache after updating language files.

Form submits but nothing happens in MailerLite

• Check MailerLite dashboard for the subscriber; confirm group ID and that the list expects confirmed opt-in if you use double opt-in.

Ajax errors in browser console

• Confirm the module is published and the same site URL is used (avoid mixed http/https).
• Try with caching plugins temporarily disabled for testing.
