Social Icon Display 2.2 is a site module for Joomla 4, 5, and 6 that shows a clean row of social profile icons built with vanilla JavaScript and SVG glyphs.

Version 2.2 replaces the old PNG + jQuery stack with Soft, Solid, and Outline styles, brand colours, tooltips, and the familiar hover focus effect. Existing slide parameter names stay the same for upgrades.

Requirements

• Joomla 4, 5, or 6
• PHP 8.1 or later recommended

Install

1. Download mod_social_display_2.2.zip.
2. Open System > Install > Extensions.
3. Upload and install the module.
4. Open Content > Site Modules, create a Social Icon Display module, add icons, assign pages, and publish.
5. Clear Joomla and browser cache.

• Icon Size: button size in pixels
• Gap: space between icons
• Alignment: left, center, or right
• Icon Style: Soft, Solid, or Outline
• Link Target: same window or new tab
• Show Tooltips: title on hover and focus
• Hover Focus: dim sibling icons while one is active
• Icons: network, URL, optional title, show/hide

Built-in glyphs include Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Flickr, Reddit, RSS, Email, Pinterest, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, GitHub, Vimeo, Delicious, and Digg.

Leave Title blank to use the default network label in the tooltip.

Assets load as social-display.css?2.2.0 and social-display.js?2.2.0.

• No icons appear

  • Enable Status on at least one icon row and set a valid URL. Clear cache.

• Old PNG look

  • Clear Joomla and browser cache. Confirm assets load as social-display.css?2.2.0.

• Tooltips missing

  • Turn Show Tooltips on. Titles use the Title field or the network default.

• Hover dimming off

  • Enable Hover Focus. Reduced-motion preferences skip the dim effect.

• Which Joomla versions are supported?

  • Joomla 4, 5, and 6.

• Does it require jQuery?

  • No. Version 2.2 uses native JavaScript.

• Will my icons survive an upgrade from 2.0?

  • Yes. The slide rows keep the same parameter names.
