Easy Author Box 1.0 is a content plugin for Joomla 4, 5, and 6 that shows an author byline on articles. Visitors see photo, role, bio, and social links. Optional Person JSON-LD helps search engines understand the writer.

Version 1.0 uses a modern Joomla stack: service provider, namespaced helper, Web Asset Manager assets, and Font Awesome icons. Markup is scoped under the jx-eab root class.

Unzip the Package

• Unzip EasyAuthorBox_UNZIP.zip.
• Inside you will find:
  • plg_content_easy_author_box_1.0.0.zip: install this for Joomla 4, 5 & 6
  • ReadMe.txt: notes for the current version

Install

1. Open System > Install > Extensions.
2. Upload plg_content_easy_author_box_1.0.0.zip.
3. Open System > Plugins, find Content - Easy Author Box, and set Status to Enabled.
4. Open the Authors tab and add a profile for each publishing user.
5. Clear Joomla cache and view an article on the front end.

Requirements

• Joomla 4, 5, or 6
• PHP 8.1 or later recommended
• Articles with a Created by user

Add one profile per Joomla user under the Authors tab. The profile must match the article Created by user.

• Published (default: Yes): hide a profile without deleting it
• Joomla user (required): select the account that publishes articles
• Display name: optional override of the account name
• Role / Title: shown under the name (for example Editor or Founder)
• Photo: portrait from Media Manager
• Bio: short profile text (safe HTML allowed)
• Email / Phone / Website: optional contact details
• Social URLs: LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Instagram, GitHub, YouTube, Dribbble, TikTok, WhatsApp

If no profile exists and Require Profile is No, the box still shows the Joomla user name. Enable Gravatar Fallback when you want an avatar from email without uploading a photo.

• Auto Insert (default: Yes): add the box automatically. No: only show it when the article contains a shortcode
• Insert Position (default: After content): Before content, After content, or None (shortcode only)
• Label: small heading above the box. Leave empty for About the author
• Show Label (default: Yes)
• Require Profile (default: No): only show a box when an Authors row matches
• Gravatar Fallback (default: No): load Gravatar when no photo is set
• Show On (default: Single articles): Articles, Category blog items, and/or Featured items

When a shortcode is present, that location wins for the same article body.

Theme presets change the overall look. Appearance colours still apply on every theme.

• Only Categories: comma-separated category IDs. Empty means all
• Exclude Categories: category IDs that must never show the box
• Only Articles / Exclude Articles: same pattern for article IDs
• Extra CSS: optional rules scoped under .jx-eab. Unsafe patterns are stripped

Place {easy_author_box} or {author_box} where the box should appear. Optional attributes override defaults for that article:

• No box appears

  • Enable the plugin. Confirm the article has a Created by user. If Require Profile is Yes, add a matching Authors row. Clear cache.

• Wrong person

  • Check the article Created by field and the Authors tab user mapping.

• No photo

  • Upload a photo on the profile, or enable Gravatar Fallback. Broken image URLs fall back to initials.

• JSON-LD missing

  • Turn Person JSON-LD to Yes and view page source for application/ld+json with @type: Person.

• Two boxes on one article

  • Remove the shortcode, or set Insert Position to None when using shortcodes only.

• Which Joomla versions are supported?

  • Joomla 4, 5, and 6. PHP 8.1 or later is recommended.

• Does it require jQuery?

  • No. Easy Author Box uses CSS and Font Awesome through the Web Asset Manager.

• What is the customer download package?

  • EasyAuthorBox_UNZIP.zip. Unzip it, then install plg_content_easy_author_box_1.0.0.zip.
