Easy Share Buttons 1.0 is a content plugin for Joomla 4, 5, and 6 that adds privacy-first share actions to articles. Visitors can use native device share, open network share pages, copy the link, or print. No third-party trackers and no share counts.

Version 1.0 uses a modern Joomla stack: service provider, namespaced helper, Web Asset Manager assets, and lightweight SVG icons. Markup is scoped under the jx-es root class.

Unzip the Package

• Unzip EasyShareButtons_UNZIP.zip.
• Inside you will find:
  • plg_content_easy_share_1.0.0.zip: install this for Joomla 4, 5 & 6
  • ReadMe.txt: notes for the current version

Install

1. Open System > Install > Extensions.
2. Upload plg_content_easy_share_1.0.0.zip.
3. Open System > Plugins, find Content - Easy Share Buttons, and set Status to Enabled.
4. Clear Joomla cache and view an article on the front end.

Requirements

• Joomla 4, 5, or 6
• PHP 8.1 or later recommended

• Enable (default: Yes): master switch for automatic output
• Position (default: After article): Before, After, Before and after, or None (shortcode only)
• Group label: heading above the button row (default: Share)
• Show label (default: Yes)
• Open links in new tab (default: Yes)
• Contexts (default: Article): Articles, Category blog items, and/or Featured items

When a shortcode is present, that location wins and automatic position insert is skipped for the same article body.

Choose which actions appear and in which order under the Networks tab.

• Native share: device share sheet when supported
• X / Facebook / LinkedIn / WhatsApp / Telegram: open the network share URL
• Pinterest / Reddit / Bluesky: extra discovery networks
• Email: opens a mailto draft with title and URL
• Copy link: copies the URL and shows a toast
• Print: opens the browser print dialog

No network SDKs or share-count widgets are loaded.

• Theme (default: Brand filled): Brand filled, Brand soft, Brand outline, Classic, Soft, Bold, Minimal, Glass
• Display mode (default: Icon and text): Icon only, Icon and text, Text only

• Size (default: Medium): Small, Medium, Large

Brand themes colour each button with the network identity (Facebook blue, WhatsApp green, and so on). Floating sticks to the left of the viewport on wide screens and falls back to a normal row on smaller screens.

• Background / Text / Accent: optional colour overrides. Leave empty for theme defaults
• Corner radius (default: 8)
• Gap (default: 8)

UTM tracking

• Enable UTM (default: No)
• utm_source (default: easy_share)
• utm_medium (default: social)
• utm_campaign: optional

UTM values are appended to the shared URL on the server. No analytics scripts are added to the page.

• Only Categories: comma-separated category IDs. Empty means all
• Exclude Categories: category IDs that must never show buttons
• Only Articles / Exclude Articles: same pattern for article IDs

Place {easy_share} or {share} where the buttons should appear. Optional attributes override defaults for that article:

  • Enable the plugin. Confirm Position is not None unless you use a shortcode. Check Filters. Clear cache.

• Two button rows

  • Remove the shortcode, or set Position to None when using shortcodes only.

• Native share does nothing

  • The browser must support navigator.share (common on phones). Desktop browsers may show the unavailable toast.

• Copy fails

  • Some browsers require HTTPS for clipboard write. The fallback tries a temporary textarea.

• Floating overlaps content

  • Use Floating only on wide article templates, or switch to Inline/Cards for dense layouts.

• Which Joomla versions are supported?

  • Joomla 4, 5, and 6. PHP 8.1 or later is recommended.

• Does it load tracking scripts?

  • No. Network buttons open share URLs. Copy and Print run on-page.

• Are share counts included?

  • Not in version 1.0. Counts usually need third-party APIs and conflict with the privacy-first goal.

• What is the customer download package?

  • EasyShareButtons_UNZIP.zip. Unzip it, then install plg_content_easy_share_1.0.0.zip.
