Login Popup Pro v2.1.1 lets people log in or log out in a small window on top of your page — they don’t get sent to a separate login screen.

Visitors use your “Login” link; members use your “Logout” link. Everything uses Joomla’s normal, secure login — the plugin only changes how it looks on the page.

You can:

• Choose Modern (2026) blur-overlay design or Classic (legacy) flat theme
• Match colours to your brand from the Appearance tab (overlay, popup, inputs, buttons, links, accent)
• Show optional field icons and toggle labels on the Modern theme
• Choose where the “Register” line appears (above or below the form)
• Open the popup automatically from #login / #logout URL hashes
• Close the window by clicking outside, the × button, or the Escape key
• Set optional redirects and a friendly “Hi name” greeting on logout

Works on Joomla 4, 5, and 6. Maintained by Joomlax.

Login Popup Pro v2.1.1 is distributed as a single system plugin ZIP for Joomla 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x.

Install

After downloading plg_loginpopup_v2.1.1.zip, go to System > Install > Extensions, open the Upload Package File tab, choose the file, and click Upload & Install.

Turn it on

Go to System > Plugins, search for Login Popup Pro, open it, set Status to Enabled, and save.

What you need

• Joomla 4, 5, or 6
• A normal Joomla site with user login enabled
• Menu or module links using #login and #logout (or your custom selector)

What opens the popup?

Your Link selector tells the plugin which links on the page should open the window. The default matches common menu links:

a[href="#login"], a[href="#logout"]

If your menu uses those link types, leave this setting as-is. For custom links, update the selector to match your markup.

Who sees what?

• Guests (not logged in) see the login form.
• Logged-in users see the logout form.

Popup theme

Under Appearance > Popup theme, choose:

• Modern (2026) — blur overlay, rounded panel, accent colour, pill button (recommended for new sites)
• Classic (legacy) — original flat ExtStore-style design

Vertical offset

Moves the popup slightly up or down from screen centre (value in pixels).

Secure form (HTTPS)

If your site uses HTTPS, turn this on so the form submits securely when possible.

After login or logout

• Login redirect and Logout redirect: pick a menu page to send people to after they sign in or out. Leave empty to stay on the current page.

Logout greeting

• Show greeting: shows a short “Hi …” line above the logout button.
• Greeting name: use their full name (from profile) or their username.

Remember me

The “Remember me” box only appears if Joomla’s System - Remember Me plugin is enabled.

Two-factor authentication

If your site uses 2FA, the secret key field appears automatically — same as on the normal Joomla login page.

Open the Appearance tab in the plugin. Values are output as CSS variables on the popup container (.jx-lp-root).

Theme & layout

• Popup theme: Modern (2026) or Classic (legacy)
• Show field icons: Font Awesome user/lock icons inside username and password fields
• Show field labels: labels above inputs on Modern theme (Classic always shows labels)
• Registration link position: above or below the login form

Overlay (backdrop)

• Overlay colour and Overlay opacity (0–100)
• Backdrop blur (px): frosted-glass blur on Modern theme (0–24 px)

Popup box

• Background, Body text, Title and greeting
• Accent colour: focus rings, registration links, and Modern highlights
• Shadow (colour) and Shadow opacity
• Corner radius (px) and Width (px)

Close (×) button

• Icon colour and Icon colour (hover)

Form fields

• Field background, Field text, Field border, Field border (focus)
• Field icon colour and Field corner radius (px)

Primary button (Login / Logout)

• Button background, Button text, Button background (hover)
• Button corner radius (px): use 999 for a pill-shaped button

Links

• Link colour and Link colour (hover) for “Forgot password?”, “Register”, etc.

Tip: Change a few colours at a time, save, and refresh your site. Modern defaults use accent #1819ed and a pill button.

Open the popup from a full link

Sometimes you want a page to open with the login window already visible — for example from an email or an advert.

Turn Open from URL hash to Yes, then set which “ending” on the address line should trigger the popup.

• Hash for login popup (guests): usually #login. Comma-separated list supported.
• Hash for logout popup (logged in): usually #logout.

You can type login or #login — the plugin normalises the format. The plugin also listens for hashchange events so the popup can open when the hash changes without a full page reload.

Same login as Joomla

Usernames and passwords are checked by Joomla in the usual way. The popup is only a different layout — not a different login system.

Tokens

Forms include Joomla’s CSRF token so submissions are protected the same as on your default login page.

HTTPS option

Enable HTTPS for form to submit login/logout using SSL when your site supports it.

Safe styling

Only validated hex colour values from the settings are used for CSS variables — your choices stay under your control.

• Nothing happens when I click Login.

  • Make sure the plugin is Enabled and you are on the public website, not the administrator.
  • Check that your menu link matches the Link selector (default: #login / #logout).
  • Clear Joomla cache and try a private browser window.

• I see login instead of logout (or vice versa).

  • Guests always see login; logged-in users see logout. Use the correct link for each audience.

• Modern vs Classic — which should I use?

  • Modern (2026) is recommended for new sites: blur overlay, rounded panel, accent colour, field icons, and pill button.
  • Classic keeps the original flat look from earlier ExtStore releases.

• Does it work with friendly (SEF) URLs?

  • Yes. The #login / #logout fragment works with normal SEF page addresses.

• Which Joomla versions are supported?

  • Joomla 4, 5, and 6 with plg_loginpopup_v2.1.1.zip.

Popup never opens

• Confirm the plugin is Enabled.
• Test on the live site (frontend), not only in the admin.
• Clear Joomla’s cache (System > Clear Cache).
• View page source and confirm jx-loginpopup.css and jx-loginpopup.js are loading.

Auto-open from a link doesn’t work

• Turn Open from URL hash on.
• Ensure the hash matches your configured login/logout lists.
• Guests and logged-in users use different hash lists — set both.

Colours or blur look wrong

• Re-check Appearance settings and save.
• Backdrop blur applies to the Modern theme only.
• Some templates add strong global styles; scoped CSS variables usually win, but contact support if colours conflict.

Upgrading from an older Login Popup

• Install plg_loginpopup_v2.1.1.zip over the old version; settings are preserved.
• Existing sites default to Classic until you switch to Modern under Appearance.
• Remove unused legacy files from media/plg_system_loginpopup if present from very old installs — not required for v2.1.1 to work.
