Responsive News Ticker 1.7 is a modern horizontal news ticker for Joomla. Place it in a module position, or pin it as a fixed top or bottom bar. It uses vanilla CSS and JavaScript (prefix jx-rt) — no jQuery.

Unzip the Package

• Unzip ResponsiveNewsTicker_UNZIP.zip.
• Inside you will find:
  • mod_rticker_1.7.zip — install this for Joomla 4, 5 & 6
  • ReadMe.txt — notes for the current version

Install in Joomla

1. Log in to the Joomla administrator.
2. Go to System → Install → Extensions.
3. Open the Upload Package File tab.
4. Choose mod_rticker_1.7.zip.
5. Click Upload & Install.
6. Wait for the green success message.

Create and publish a module

1. Go to Content → Site Modules.
2. Click New and select Responsive News Ticker.
3. Set a title, choose a module position (for Module placement), and set Status to Published.
4. Assign the module to the menu items where it should appear.
5. Save.

Requirements: Joomla 4.x / 5.x / 6.x and PHP 8.0+.

Open your Responsive News Ticker module and use the tabs below.

Content

• Content Source — Articles from categories, Custom items list, or Single text / HTML.
• Categories / Count / Ordering — article feed options.
• Custom Items — repeatable text + optional link.
• Separator and empty message.

Display

• Ticker Placement — Module position, Top fixed bar, or Bottom fixed bar.
• Show Header Label, Play / Pause, Fade Edges.
• Link Target and optional nofollow.
• z-index for fixed bars (so the ticker stays above other content).

Motion

• Direction — left or right.
• Speed — pixels per second (typical 30–80).
• Gap Between Loops and Pause on Hover / Focus.

Look

• Theme — Modern, Minimal, Dark, Soft, or Contrast.
• Accent, background, text, label, hover, and border colours.
• Font size / weight, width (module), height, and radius.

Advanced

• Module Class Suffix and Extra CSS.

In-page ticker

1. Set Placement to Module position.
2. Assign the module to a template position.
3. Choose theme Modern and enable the header label.

Site-wide top bar

1. Set Placement to Top fixed bar.
2. Publish the module on All pages (or selected menus).
3. Raise z-index if another fixed header covers it.

Custom headlines

1. Set Content Source to Custom items list.
2. Add short messages with optional links.
3. Save and preview.

Q: Does it still need jQuery?
A: No. Version 1.7 is fully vanilla JavaScript and CSS.

Q: What is the difference between Module and Top Fixed?
A: Module sits in a template position. Top Fixed sticks to the top of the viewport on every assigned page.

Q: How do I set speed?
A: Use Speed (pixels per second) under Motion. Typical values are 30–80.

Q: Can I use Joomla articles?
A: Yes. Set Content Source to Articles from categories.

Q: Is it responsive?
A: Yes. The layout adapts on phones and tablets.

The ticker does not appear

• Confirm Published status and menu assignment.
• For Module placement, confirm the template position exists.
• Clear Joomla cache and search page source for jx-rt.

Fixed bar is behind the header

• Increase the z-index under Display.

Nothing scrolls

• Check Speed and Direction.
• Make sure Play is not paused.
• Hard-refresh so responsive-ticker.js loads.
