What is Vertical Animated Ticker 2.1?
It is a Joomla module for a modern vertical news ticker — articles or custom items, step or continuous scroll, themes, and visitor controls.
It uses vanilla CSS/JS (no jQuery).
Which Joomla versions are supported?
Joomla 4, 5, and 6.
PHP 8.0 or higher is recommended.
How do I install it?
Upload mod_vertical_ticker_2.1.zip via System → Install → Extensions.
Do not unzip the install zip first.
How do I create a ticker module?
Go to Content → Site Modules → New and choose Vertical Animated Ticker.
Pick a position, assign menu items, publish, and save.
What is the difference between Step and Continuous Scroll?
Step pauses between each item.
Continuous Scroll moves smoothly until pause on hover or the play button.
Can I use custom headlines instead of articles?
Yes. Set Content Source to Custom Items.
Add rows in the subform with title, text, link, date, category, author, and image.
How do I show intro images?
Enable Show Intro Image.
For articles, set an intro image on each article. For custom items, pick an image in the subform, then choose size and shape.
Which themes are available?
Modern, Minimal, Dark, Soft, and Contrast.
Combine a theme with your accent and colour fields to match your brand.
How do visitor controls work?
Enable Show Controls for play / pause, previous, and next.
Place them in the header, footer, or overlay. Touch swipe and keyboard (Space / arrows) can also be enabled.
Can I show a “Breaking” or “Latest” label?
Yes. Turn on Show Header Label and enter your text.
Why are my article links not SEF?
Joomla needs a menu Itemid for clean URLs.
Create a published (even hidden) category blog menu item for that category so routing can resolve.
Can ticker links open in a new tab?
Yes. Set Link Target to New Window.
You can also enable nofollow when needed.
Is the module responsive?
Yes. Layouts adapt on phones and tablets.
Swipe is available for touch devices.
Can I add custom CSS?
Yes. Use the Extra CSS field or a Module Class Suffix.
The ticker shows “No items found”. What should I check?
Articles: confirm categories have published articles and Count is greater than zero.
Custom: add at least one subform row with a title or text, then clear cache.
Step mode does not rotate. Why?
If Visible Items is greater than or equal to the number of rows, there is nothing to step.
Lower Visible Items or add more articles.
Does it still need jQuery?
No. Version 2.1 is fully vanilla JavaScript and CSS.
