Features

What can Typewriter do for you?

Seven feature areas, one install package for Joomla 4, 5 and 6.

Living Headlines

Headlines That Type Themselves

Rotate phrases in hero lines, promos and service lists so your message feels alive. Drop a shortcode where the copy matters most.

Your Phrases

Phrases Your Way

Add as many phrases as you like for a smooth type-and-erase loop. Each block keeps its own set.

Your Pace

Pace You Control

Set typing, erasing and pause speeds, calm for brand lines and snappy for promos. Use site-wide defaults and tweak any block.

Custom Cursor

A Cursor That Matches Your Theme

Pick cursor color and thickness so it looks designed for your site. Keep the classic blink or hold it steady.

Paste and Go

Works Anywhere You Have Content

Drop the shortcode wherever your content lives. Ready-made examples make reuse a one-click job.

Polite Motion

Starts When Visitors Can See It

Begin typing only when the text scrolls into view. Visitors who prefer less motion get a calmer experience automatically.

Future-Proof

Built for Modern Joomla

Lightweight JavaScript for lighter pages and easier upkeep. Built for Joomla 4, 5 and 6.

Changelog

What's new

6 releases since version 1.0. Updates install from the Joomla admin with a valid licence.

- Download Key support on the update site (dlid).
- Full rebuild for Joomla 4, 5, and 6 with service provider and SubscriberInterface
- Shortcodes work site-wide via onAfterRender (articles, modules, custom HTML)
- Vanilla JS rewrite with cursor blink CSS — no jQuery
- New options: loop, start delay, start-when-visible, reduced-motion, custom tag/class
- Simpler phrases="One|Two|Three" syntax alongside text1 / text2
- Plugin-level defaults for speeds, delay, and cursor style
- Protects shortcodes inside pre/code documentation blocks
- Cleaner package — legacy root JS entry removed
- Initial Infyways release with article shortcodes
- Erasing effect can be disabled: optional "type only" mode so only the typing animation is shown; text clears instantly before the next phrase (no backspace animation)
- Global "Disable Erasing" option in plugin parameters to turn off erasing for all typewriter shortcodes by default
- Per-shortcode override via new shortcode attribute disableErasing (values: 1, true, or yes) to enable or disable erasing per instance
- Shortcode Examples tab updated with a "Type Only (No Erasing)" example with one-click copy
- JavaScript updated to support disableErasing; when enabled, text is cleared in one step instead of character-by-character erasing
- Typewriter containers now use data-disable-erasing to pass the setting from PHP to the script
- Added security improvements including htmlspecialchars() for all output
- Added Shortcode Examples tab with 12+ ready-to-use examples and one-click copy functionality
- Added jx- prefix to all CSS classes and IDs to prevent conflicts with other extensions
- Added automatic erasing speed calculation based on typing speed when not specified
- Added download key (dlid) support for automatic updates
- Compatible with Joomla 4, 5, and 6
- Migrated asset loading to WebAssetManager for modern Joomla API compliance
- Replaced deprecated JURI::root() with Uri::root() for Joomla 4+ compatibility
- Enhanced input validation and sanitization for all shortcode parameters
- Improved speed value validation (50-1000ms range) with automatic bounds checking
- Enhanced JavaScript with better error handling and DOM ready detection
- Improved code structure with proper PHPDoc comments and modern PHP syntax
- Optimized asset loading to only occur when typewriter shortcodes are present
- Updated branding to JoomlaX with updated support URLs
- Initial release
- Basic typewriter effect with customizable text phrases

- Customizable cursor color and thickness

FAQ

Questions about Typewriter

Still unsure? Our support team is one ticket away.

What is Typewriter used for?

Typewriter animates rotating phrases in headlines and CTAs using a simple shortcode — ideal for hero lines, offers, and service lists.

Which Joomla versions are supported?

Typewriter 1.3 supports Joomla 4, Joomla 5, and Joomla 6.

PHP 8.1 or newer is recommended.

Does Typewriter 1.3 require jQuery?

No. Version 1.3 uses vanilla JavaScript.

What is the shortcode syntax?

Basic:

{typewriter text1="Hello" text2="Welcome" /}

Or pipe-separated phrases:

{typewriter phrases="Hello|Welcome|Let's go" typingSpeed="100" /}

Where can I place the shortcode?

Anywhere in site HTML — articles, custom HTML modules, and most content areas. The plugin processes the rendered page.

Can I change speed and cursor colour?

Yes. Set defaults in the plugin, or override per shortcode with typingSpeed, erasingSpeed, delayBeforeErasing, cursorColor, and cursorThickness.
