Easy Events Calendar 1.0.0 helps you publish local events on Joomla 4.4+, 5, and 6. You add a title, date, time, place, and photo. Visitors browse calendars, lists, cards, timelines, or a dashboard, then open a popup or a full event page.

One download installs three parts:

• Component (com_easyeventscalendar): where you create events and calendar pages
• Module (mod_easyeventscalendar): a block for the home page or sidebar
• Smart Search plugin (plg_finder_easyeventscalendar): so Search can find events

Store badges show Component, Module, and Plugin.

What you can do

• Publish events with categories, reusable locations, tags, gallery, and maps
• Choose layouts: Month, Week, Agenda, Cards, Timeline, Monthly Cards, Month with side filters, Dashboard, Single event
• Open events as a full page or a popup
• Place a module: Upcoming, Cards, Timeline, Mini month, Featured, Dashboard, plus slide and fade carousels
• Offer share buttons, Add to calendar, and an iCal subscribe feed
• Use recurrence, CSV import/export, and cached WebP thumbnails for faster pages

What it is not

Easy Events Calendar does not sell tickets, manage seats, or take payments. Link to an organiser ticket URL when needed.

Before you install

• Joomla: 4.4 or newer, 5.x, or 6.x
• PHP: 8.1 or newer
• Database: MySQL or MariaDB
• Access: a Super User (or administrator) login so you can install extensions

Helpful but optional

• A few photos ready in Media Manager
• A Google Maps Embed API key if you want address maps without pasting embed HTML
• Smart Search enabled if you want Finder indexing
• A template module position for a home page upcoming or cards block

Not required

• jQuery
• A booking or payment extension
• Extra page builders

Follow these steps carefully. The store sends an outer zip. Joomla needs the inner zip.

Step 1: Download

Download EasyEventsCalendar_UNZIP.zip from your purchase email or the Downloads section.

Step 2: Unzip on your computer

1. Right-click EasyEventsCalendar_UNZIP.zip.
2. Choose Extract All (Windows) or Unzip (Mac).
3. Open the new folder. You should see:
   • pkg_easyeventscalendar_1.0.0.zip (this is the install file)
   • ReadMe.txt (short reminder)

Important: Do not upload EasyEventsCalendar_UNZIP.zip to Joomla. Only install pkg_easyeventscalendar_1.0.0.zip.

Step 3: Install in Joomla

1. Log in to the Joomla administrator.
2. Go to System > Install > Extensions.
3. Click Upload Package File.
4. Choose pkg_easyeventscalendar_1.0.0.zip.
5. Wait for the green success message.
6. Check the left menu for Components > Easy Events Calendar.
7. Clear cache: System > Maintenance > Clear Cache.

Updates later

Install a newer pkg_easyeventscalendar_*.zip the same way. Your events and settings stay.

Goal: show a working calendar page in about five minutes.

1. Open Components > Easy Events Calendar. Read the Dashboard checklist if it appears.
2. Click Categories and create one category (example: Concerts). Save.
3. Optional: open Locations and add a venue name plus city. Save.
4. Open Events and click New. Fill Title, Start date/time, Category, and Status = Published. Save.
5. Add two more events the same way so the calendar is not empty.
6. Go to Menus > [Your menu] > New.
7. Menu Item Type: choose Easy Events Calendar > Calendar (month) or Cards or Dashboard.
8. Give the item a title (example: Events), set Published, then Save.
9. Clear cache, then open that menu link on the front end.

Student tip: Change only one Display option, click Save, then refresh the front page. That way you learn what each switch does.

Categories

Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Categories.

• Categories group events (Markets, Sports, Meetings).
• Published categories appear in the event form and in front-end filters.
• Use short, clear titles so filter buttons stay easy to read.

Locations

Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Locations.

• Save a venue name, address, city, and map once.
• When you edit an event, pick that saved location instead of retyping.
• Location filters help visitors find nearby events on Agenda, Cards, Timeline, and related layouts.

Create categories and locations before you add many events. That keeps the first save clean.

Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Events, then click New.

Main fields

• Title and Alias sit above the form card (same pattern as Articles)
• Start date / time and optional End date / time (or All-day)
• Category, tags, and optional linked article
• Short description for lists and modules; full description for the detail page
• External URL for organiser tickets or more info (optional)
• Recurrence: daily, weekly, or monthly with interval and optional until date

Right sidebar

• Publishing: Featured, Status, Ordering, Access, Language
• Metadata: Keywords, Meta Description, Robots

The sidebar stays visible while you switch Main, Media, and Location tabs.

Media and location

• Main image, intro image, gallery, and video URL
• Saved location picker, or venue/city overrides
• Map embed HTML or address-based map when a Configuration API key is set
• Organiser contacts

From the Events list you can toggle Featured with the star, duplicate events, download a sample CSV, and run CSV import or export.

Create menu items under Menus > [Your menu] > New, then choose an Easy Events Calendar type.

• Month (Calendar): classic month grid
• Month with side filters: month grid plus a side filter column
• Week: a focused week strip
• Agenda: list of upcoming (and optional past) events
• Cards: card grid for What’s On pages
• Timeline: chronological spine layout
• Monthly Cards: cards for one month with previous and next controls
• Dashboard: three panels (month list, month grid, event cards) with dark or light skin
• Single event: a pinned page for one chosen event

On each menu item, open Display options for skin, popup or page, filters, and field visibility. Use Joomla Page Display Options if you need a different Template Style.

The Dashboard layout shows three panels side by side on wide screens:

1. Month rail: jump between months
2. Month grid: days with event dots
3. Event panel: cards for the visible month (or for the selected day)

How to create it

1. Menus > New > Easy Events Calendar > Dashboard.
2. Set skin to Dashboard (dark) or Dashboard light.
3. Optional: choose panel scope Month (all events in the month) or Day (events for the clicked day).
4. Choose popup or full page for opens.
5. Save, clear cache, open the front end.

You can also place the Easy Events Calendar module in Dashboard mode for a homepage block.

Card images use small cached thumbnails so the panel stays fast.

Card field show/hide

On Cards, Timeline, Monthly Cards, and matching module options, turn these on or off:

• Image
• Category
• Date
• Time
• Intro (short description)
• Location

Hide fields to keep mobile lists compact.

Popup or page

• Page: opens the event URL (best for shareable links).
• Popup: opens a modal with event facts, share, and Add to calendar.

When page mode is on, you can open the link in the same tab or a new tab.

Upload full-size photos on events. Easy Events Calendar creates smaller cached copies for lists so pages load faster.

Where to set sizes

Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Configuration (Appearance).

• Thumbnail max width / height: small squares (default 120×120) for Dashboard, Similar events, and Upcoming lists
• Card image max width / height: larger 16:10 crops (default 640×400) for Cards and Timeline
• Serve WebP thumbnails: Yes to save lighter WebP files when PHP supports it
• WebP quality: about 82 is a good balance

Cached files live under images/cache/easyeventscalendar/. Menu items and the module can override these sizes when needed.

Event detail heroes and galleries still use the full image so large photos stay sharp.

Filters

Where a layout supports them, visitors can filter by category, location, tag, or search.

Display options let you:

• Show the filter bar
• Hide it completely
• Toggle it with a button

Date and time formats

Set formats in Configuration. Choose 12-hour or 24-hour style to match your audience.

Corners

Pick rounded or squared corners so cards match your site look.

Go to Content > Site Modules > New and select Easy Events Calendar.

Modes

• Upcoming: compact list for sidebars
• Cards: card presentation for homepage strips
• Timeline: chronological module list
• Mini month: small month navigator
• Featured: featured events only
• Dashboard: three-panel dashboard block

Cards layouts

• Grid: static responsive cards
• Slide: horizontal carousel with swipe
• Fade: fade carousel with swipe

Useful options

• Count / limit, category filter, ordering
• Show/hide image, category, date, time, intro, location
• Thumbnail and card image size overrides
• Corner style, Load More, View all events
• Position, Menu Assignment, Published

Clear cache after saving. Confirm the module position exists in your template.

Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Configuration. Click Save after changes.

• Appearance / Design colours: brand tokens, image thumbnail and card sizes, WebP
• Month / Agenda / Event page: week start day, list behaviour, map key, gallery and similar events
• Sharing: share networks and Add to calendar defaults
• Structured data: Event JSON-LD options
• Permissions: who may manage calendar content

Menu Display options can override skin and many front-end toggles for one page without changing the whole site.

Add to calendar on events and cards

Visitors can add a single event to Google Calendar, Outlook, or Apple (ICS download). Enable the buttons in Configuration and per-menu Display options when available.

iCal subscribe feed

Share a feed URL so people subscribe to upcoming events in their calendar app. A common form is:

index.php?option=com_easyeventscalendar&task=ical.feed&format=raw

Optional category filter: add &catid=ID. Prefer a SEF menu or rewrite if your site uses friendly URLs.

Recurrence

1. Edit an event.
2. Choose daily, weekly, or monthly recurrence.
3. Set the interval (every 1 week, every 2 weeks, and so on).
4. Optional: set an until date.
5. Save. Easy Events Calendar creates published occurrences.

Deleting a parent removes its recurrence children.

CSV

1. Open Components > Easy Events Calendar > Events (or start from the Dashboard CSV panel).
2. Download the sample CSV template with two example rows.
3. Replace the examples with your events. Keep the header row.
4. Required columns: title and start_datetime. Use a matching category_alias when possible.
5. Choose the file and click Run import. Use Export anytime for a full backup spreadsheet.

• Components > Easy Events Calendar is missing

  • Confirm you installed pkg_easyeventscalendar_1.0.0.zip (not only the outer UNZIP). Reinstall if needed. Clear cache.

• Menu page is empty

  • Publish events with start dates that fall in the view. Check category filters and access levels.

• Module does not show

  • Check Published, Position, and Menu Assignment. Confirm the template has that position.

• Images look soft on Cards

  • Raise Card image max width/height in Configuration (try 800×500), clear cache, hard-refresh.

• Dashboard thumbs still large in Network tab

  • Confirm image settings are saved. First load builds images/cache/easyeventscalendar/. Hard-refresh after that.

• Smart Search finds no events

  • Enable Finder - Easy Events Calendar under System > Plugins. Rebuild the index under Components > Smart Search.

• Map does not appear

  • Paste allowlisted embed HTML, or set the Embed API key and address. Clear cache.

• Old look after changes

  • Save, clear Joomla cache, then hard-refresh (Ctrl+F5).

• Does it sell tickets?

  • No. Use the external URL for organiser ticket pages.

• UNZIP vs pkg?

  • Unzip EasyEventsCalendar_UNZIP.zip, then install pkg_easyeventscalendar_1.0.0.zip.

• Component vs module?

  • Component stores events and full pages. Module shows a block in a template position.

• What is Dashboard?

  • A three-panel layout: month rail, month grid, and event cards.

• Do images resize automatically?

  • Yes for list, cards, timeline, dashboard, and similar events. Heroes stay full size.

• Which Joomla versions?

  • Joomla 4.4+, 5, and 6 with PHP 8.1+.

• Smart Search finds nothing?

  • Enable Finder - Easy Events Calendar, then rebuild the Smart Search index. See the Troubleshooting tab.

• Front end looks unchanged?

  • Save, clear Joomla cache, then hard-refresh (Ctrl+F5). See the Troubleshooting tab.
