What is Easy Responsive Tabs?

It is a Joomla system plugin that turns simple shortcodes into responsive, accessible tab sets. You can also load tabs from existing articles.

Which Joomla versions are supported?

Joomla 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x. PHP 8.1 or newer is recommended.

What package should I install?

Install pkg_easytabs_1.9.zip. It includes the system plugin and the Easy Tabs editor button.

What is the latest shortcode syntax?

Use lowercase curly braces, for example {etabs} with {tab Title}…{/tab} inside, then {/etabs}.

Does old uppercase or square-bracket syntax still work?

Yes. Uppercase {ETABS} / {TAB} and older [ETABS] / [TAB] inserts are still processed. Prefer the new lowercase curly syntax for new content.

How many styles and themes are included?

20 styles and 24 named themes, plus a custom hex colour. That is more than 480 combinations.

How do I change style or theme?

Set defaults in the system plugin, or add attributes on the shortcode, for example style="pill" themecolor="dark-hive". Attributes can be in any order.

Can I build tabs from Joomla articles?

Yes. Use {etabs article="1,2,3"}{/etabs}. Article titles become labels and article content fills each panel.

What does the hash attribute do?

With hash="true" (or URL Hash Deep Links enabled in settings), switching tabs updates the browser URL so a tab can be bookmarked or shared. It is off by default.

Why is hash off by default?

Pages with many tab sets can flood the URL history. Keep hash off globally, and turn it on only for sets that need deep links.

How do I insert tabs from the editor?

Enable the Editor Button plugin, then click Easy Tabs. Choose style, theme, and optional hash, then insert.

Do tabs work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Layouts adapt for smaller screens. Vertical and sidebar stack cleanly; arrow, ribbon, and skewed keep a readable horizontal strip.

Are the tabs accessible?

Yes. ARIA roles, keyboard navigation, and focus management are built in.

Is jQuery required?

No. Version 1.7 and later use vanilla JavaScript only.

My tabs are not showing. What should I check?

Confirm the system plugin is enabled, shortcodes are closed correctly, you are viewing the front end, and cache is cleared. For article tabs, check that the IDs are published and accessible.

Tabs look wretched on mobile devices and are not responsive. This extension does a beautiful job of turning tabs into well styled and well behaved navigation options for your website with little effort. I have used two other tab displays in the past and they did the job... until mobile came along. Then, yuck. I installed this, made a few easy modifications to the existing tab syntax on three sites and presto, gorgeously styled tabs (24 or 25 styles are built in and it's easy to style them if you want) that look fantastic on a desktop or a smartphone.
