What's new?

Version 3.6: 26 October 2026

• Colours, text alignment, sizes and analytics IDs are validated before being printed into inline CSS/JS; inline CSS can no longer close its style tag; Theme Editor escapes theme names and preview CSS.
• Fixed Error 500 "Error decoding JSON data: Control character error" on pages showing the bar and on the module edit screen.
• Install/update repairs every Header Notification Bar module whose settings contain raw line breaks or invalid UTF-8; originals are kept in administrator/logs/mod_header_bar-params-backup.php. Unrepairable settings are reset and the module is unpublished with a notice.
• The module reads damaged settings safely instead of failing the page.
• Message, B Message, Extra CSS, Custom JavaScript and Custom Analytics Code are normalised on save (line endings, control characters, invalid UTF-8).
• Theme Editor no longer writes files while the form loads; inline admin CSS/JS uses the Web Asset Manager (no deprecated Document calls).
• Test Mode now defaults to OFF for new modules so close/dismiss is remembered.
• Requires Joomla 4.4+ and PHP 8.1+ (checked on install).

• Bug Fix: Theme Editor CSS is sanitized on save so module parameters stay valid JSON. Line breaks in custom theme CSS can no longer produce a site error when the module loads.
• Safer Theme Editor field filter for Joomla admin saves: control characters are stripped, line endings are normalized, and invalid UTF-8 is ignored.
• Single package for Joomla 4, 5, and 6: the install package (the .zip inside your download).
